You will be expected to read core textbooks, which give a wide overview of your subject (e..g Introduction to Nutrition) and contain chapters on different topics (e.g. Nutrition in Pregnancy). We also have books that are more focused on a particular topic, such as Dieting or Heart Disease.
Start by looking at your course reading list or any recommended reading that your lecturers suggest. If there’s a particular book you want then simply enter the title into the library catalogue. Alternatively, you can search by entering a subject, keyword or author.
What can I borrow?
- You can borrow up to 10 books at a time (this increase to 15 for Level H students)
- Loan periods are for 24 hours, 7 days or 2 weeks
- Some items may be Reference Only, meaning you can’t take them out of the library
Where are the books?
Nutrition and Food Science books are located on the 1st floor of the library, mostly found at Shelf Marks 612 and 613, towards the back of the building.
Use the catalogue to search – you could also find useful books under other subjects such as Education, Sports Science, Biology etc. When you have found what you are looking for, click on the title for more information and make sure you are signed in to see what types of loan are available.
Note that some large textbooks (Quartos) are shelved separately in a different area on the 1st floor – ask if you’re not sure where this is.
